Beer and Nazis
We just finished bottling out first attempt at a Duvel clone. We used a recipe we found in the BYO clone recipe edition . . . alas, it has come out at rocket fuel. Completely undrinkable. We estimate about 90% attenuation. The stuff is about 10% alcohol by volume. Which is great, if it weren't for the problem with the overbearing skunky smell and the bitter aftertaste. We blame the recipe, the ingredients, and the temperature fluctuations during our recent chilly winter. But, we did get a few lessons from this . . . first we did a partial mash brew and second, as we left the secondary fermentation in the carboy for so long, well . . . the beer was relatively clear. I assume the finished product will be undrinkable . . . but will be crystal clear.
The best find was the Argentinian all-German content radio station we tuned in over the net. They play beer drinking songs, Lutheran hymns, and even songs from the kinder corps (yikes!) . . . The funny part is all the announcers speak Spanish. Every now and then an announcement is made in German . . . very strange . . . have a listen . . . Treffpunkt Deutschland - Meeting Point: Germany (From Argentina) the URL is . . . http://190.92.166.165:8170.
